Selling as a social entrepreneur

The important thing, I find, with selling as a social entrepreneur is to make sure your sales approach (like all the other functions & operations of your business) is aligned to your purpose and values.

The reason I find most social entrepreneurs and for-purpose business owners struggle with selling, and getting behind a powerful trading model to generate revenue for their business is that they have decided sales and selling has to be done in a particular kind of way - the kind of way that they don’t feel comfortable with aka pushy, manipulative, non-consensual, aggressive etc.

And this makes total sense. Oftentimes social entrepreneurs are very clear on their values and want to run their business in a mindful, ethical way.

The important thing to remember is this is possible across all functions of your business, but if you haven’t experienced sales in a way that’s aligned to your values then it’s easy to think that sales isn’t done that way.

The truth is sales can be done in whatever way you decide.

You can decide to create a sales approach that’s fully aligned to your social, ethical and environmental values.

You can decide to do sales in a radically new way. You can decide to do sales differently to how you’ve experienced it before.

This is the Aligned Sales way. An approach to embedding your values, understanding what the customer journey & experience would be if you applied these values and create your sales process and approaches aligned to this.

Sales can be ethical, respectful, open, honest, calm, slow, consensual, equitable, being in service to people (so much more) and it should be. You get to decide what sales look like in your business, aligned to your purpose and values.

When you do this, selling becomes sooo much easier because you’re no longer fighting with yourself to do something that doesn’t feel aligned. It just becomes like any other function in your business.

I also believe it can become fun and done with ease, so you generate a lot more sales.

So ask yourself, how does selling feel for you right now? What is it you don’t enjoy about it?

Where are you not aligned with your values?

This can be a great way to understand what’s not working for you and re-wiring the way you operate your sales.
