#33 Exceeding 2020 revenue goal by 12% despite Covid-19 with Veena Isoaho

To end the year I wanted to share two inspiring stories of social entrepreneurs who have exceeded their revenue goals, despite real challenges to their social enterprises in 2020, due to covid-19. There have been a lot of challenges for all kinds of businesses this year and I'm not in anyway trying to distract from this or say "you just need to try harder" by sharing these stories.

My purpose is to share hope, and ensure you hear it's absolutely possible to reach and exceed what you think is possible even when the unexpected happens.

In this first interview, I speak to Veena Isoaho who expanded her shade-grown coffee business, Coronmandel Coast by opening up a coffee shop - Filtr, in November 2019.

We hear how she chose to adapt to the unfolding challenges of covid-19 throughout 2020, and how she believes she exceeded her revenue goals by at least 12%, even though her shop was closed for 7 weeks at the start of the first lockdown, and for another 8 weeks later in the year.

In this episode we discuss:

  • What shade-grown coffee is and it's amazing ecological benefits

  • Veena's commitment and transparency to deliver social, environmental and economic impact through her business

  • Why she believes it's important to measure and communicate her impact to her customers

  • Why she decided to open a coffee shop in 2019 and the process to making this decision

  • The decision to close the shop, and then the decision to reopen it and adapt to what was unfolding

  • What Veena feels made the difference to exceeding her revenue goals

  • Veena's tips for businesses facing challenging times?

Coromandel Coast sources and roasts the highest quality of coffee that India grows . All their coffees are grown as nature intended, under the lush canopy of indigenous forest trees.
