#52 How to secure funding and investment with Lisa Erhart

Did you know that only 2% of business investments go to women? This statistic infuriates me so much but it also makes me realise how much I myself shy away from learning about and applying for business investments.

Did you know that only 2% of business investments go to women?

This statistic infuriates me so much but it also makes me realise how much I myself shy away from learning about and applying for business investments. Yes there is bias in the system, yes it is designed by and for men but as with all things in life we know this isn't inevitable, it doesn't have to be this way and we are part of creating that change. So if you're ready to choose to challenge, and explore how you and your business could benefit from funding and investment (even as a social entrepreneur) then this is the episode for you).

I loved my conversation with Lisa Erhart this week where we discussed all this and more, as part of my series of episodes for International Women's Day (and month).

Lisa is a Grants Assessor, Funding Mentor and Investment Associate drawing on 20+ years experience to create online programs for female entrepreneurs getting ready to scale their impact businesses. Securing external funding to support growth can feel like a hunt for an allusive golden chalice but it doesn’t need to be that way. That’s why Lisa has created the Smart Women’s Guide to Business Funding. She joined me to share her insights and suggested ‘next best steps’ for women with high impact businesses (yes that's YOU!)

In this episode we discussed:

  • What is business funding, and what's available to small business owners and social enterprises?

  • What the difference between grants and impact investing is, and how to decide what might be right for you and where you're business is at right now.

  • Why it's so important women explore funding and investment options for their business

  • Why we're often put off as women to even explore options to help grow our businesses

  • Where you should start, even if you're brand new and very small

  • What you need to have in place to get started

  • Where the money is and how to identify funding and investment
