6 things to check you have in place to scale

If you’ve been operating for 6 months or more, have secured some initial investment or made some early sales, firstly huge congratulations! You’re probably now at the stage of wanting to increase your revenue with more clients and sales.

Well I’m here to help. I am passionate about helping you generate the sustainable income you need through sales to deliver the social change you want to create but I know many of us in the social impact space can struggle with the idea of selling when we’re value-led and purpose-driven.

Which is why I’ve set about to change that and help ambitious leaders for change understand how to build businesses for purpose without ever compromising on their values and the way they want to operate their business.

So you’re so ready to attract more clients and generate more sales in your social enterprise or purpose-led business?

Here’s 6 things to check you have in place so you can grow to your next level.

(Please note, this assumes you’ve already made some sales or got started with grant funding or investment).

  1. You know your ideal client inside and out

If you want to attract them you need to know who they are. So build on what you’ve learnt at the early stage of your business and engagement with them. Decide who you’re going to focus on. You may need to do some more market research but think about how you can do this in a way that supports what you’re already doing and doesn’t delay your progress.

  2. You know what your offer is but most importantly you’re confident about what results / outcomes it delivers for your ideal clients

This is key. Your confidence and belief in your offer is the first thing that gives confidence to your potential clients when they come across it. If you don’t believe in it and the results it can create, why should they. So what needs to be tweaked to make this the offer you love to sell, as much as they love to buy and utilise?

  3. You know your values and the standards you operate your business by

This is key because so often the problem with sales in a social enterprise arises because you haven’t aligned your values and the way you want to operate your business into your marketing and sales approach. Knowing your values ensures you build out a marketing and sales strategy that is fully aligned.

  4. You have a plan for how you’re going to reach your ideal clients (aka marketing)

Maybe you’ve done some fab marketing in the past to get you to this point or maybe you’ve just had some luck, either way to move on to your next level you are going to need to create a bit more of a plan and structure around your marketing so you can scale you impact and income. As a social impact leader you probably don’t want to get stuck creating content and promoting your organisation all the day everyday, so a marketing plan helps you set goals, and importantly the structure of how you are actually going to deliver those goals, in alignment with your capacity and mission.

  5. You have a sales strategy in place which outlines exactly what you do beyond marketing to make those sales happen on repeat

  6. You have the systems in place to support you going to your next level. Every founder experiences it, that point in the business where they become the bottleneck to growth. The point they need to look at everything they do and decide what support, systems or process can you put in place to support your business growth. It doesn’t always have to mean people, maybe there’s tech that can help you automate things; maybe you just need template or simple procedures to follow. But these systems are what will enable the growth to happen.
